Do I Need A Visa? Is a concept built to not just answer the question, but also promote a sense of wonder and travel to its users
This project came to be out of the frustration of not finding clear answers online over such a simple question. I built a concept that became a prototype thanks to the help of a developer. Together we pushed what we thought the project could be until the databases crashed, and so did our dreams.

While talking to some friends about the delicious foods available in the Chinese regions, I was stumped at the thought that my birthplace would provide the restrictions of needing a visa to visit. But I wasn't sure, so I decided to rely on trusty Google to check if I needed a visa from El Salvador to China.

It does the job
travisa was good enough to generally tell me if I needed a visa, but it felt horribly plain.

Single minded
CIBT visas only told me about US entry needs. As a foreign passport holder, this didn't help.

What? Umm... Ok sure...
I should have seen this coming, but it still didn't stop me from feeling bummed. Nice SEO I guess.

The lack of user-friendly and visually appealing visa information felt at odds with the premium nature of travel.

Edoardo and I decided to collaborate and build it out. From there on we added a few features and worked on transitions to make the user really feel like the trip is happening.

To evoke the excitement of travel, we designed layered interactions, including cloud-to-plane transitions and essential travel information, aiming to build user confidence.

We discovered travel requirements are more than just visas. Passport travel access percentages were added, with a reminder for users to verify themselves.

We successfully launched the project, but repository issues caused us to stop working on it. Trust us, it was a great experience.

My reflections on what I learned with this project and areas I feel could be improved:
Learnings
This was my first time working with a creative developer and it was incredible. He pushed me as much as I pushed him (while having school and work) and developed a fantastic working relationship. I value developers that know design, but also believe designers should know some code.
Designing the experience before the content allowed for a joyful, intention-driven site. I miss this approach, as client projects often prioritize content, limiting interactive design.
Areas of Opportunity
I regret abandoning the project after the repo failure. We had numerous unrealized ideas, making it a creative regret.
